From Tuesday 21 May – Monday 1 July 2024, the entry and exit of the Arts Centre Melbourne Car Park will be via Southbank Boulevard only. This may cause delays, so we recommend allowing an additional 30 minutes for arrival and exit. Plan to arrive early for performances, as late entry will not be allowed until a suitable break.

About this performance

A story of hope, freedom and family love.

Join the MSO as they bring the beautiful picture book The Peasant Prince to life. Based on his best-selling memoir Mao’s Last Dancer, this work narrates with words and music the inspiring story of Li Cunxin’s childhood and follows his subsequent journey to become one of the world’s greatest ballet dancers.

Katy Abbott, MSO Composer in Residence, will explore the themes of her work with illuminating demonstrations with the orchestra.
